"I liked going to therapy so much that I decided to go pro."
Back in 2000, I went to therapy for a while to deal with some turmoil in my life. I enjoyed going so much that a seed was planted: someday I would leave an established career in information systems to pursue my calling to be a therapist.
That day came in 2010. I was given a “divine kick in the pants” when I was laid off for the first time in my life. Three months later, I started graduate school. A year later, I was counseling in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. After graduation in 2013, I became a licensed therapist and began a new career that has become a passion for me.
So, how does someone become passionate about helping sex addicts and betrayed partners?
By experiencing both sides of the equation, as a recovering addict and a betrayed partner (from a previous marriage).
This work isn’t academic for me. I’ve lived it. I make meaning out of what I’ve been through every time I help my clients “find the way back.”
I’m a lifelong resident of Houston, Texas. My wife, Marilyn, and I married in 2002. We are parents to a daughter (in college) and a teenage son (in high school). I am the son of an immigrant (my late father was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland) and a native Texan (Mom’s from Vernon, TX).
I love playing golf, watching Formula 1 racing, following Scottish Premier League soccer, and taking in classic movies with my wife.
